The client was seeking flexibility for her visitors and ultimately something comfortable and beautiful. Early in the design process the idea of sliding modules around on a static frame was intriguing and stuck. Because the corner seat of her sofa is her favourite place in the home, comfort and access from this spot felt especially important. We saw the simple action of sliding an adjacent seat away to reveal the sofa frame as a surface for resting objects as a wonderful function. The interruptions in the seating then became a playful interaction between mass and void.
With help from the talented team at Fine Form Upholstery we pushed and pulled (literally and figuratively) at the concept and started to get something we were really excited about. Then in working out the materiality in tandem, we reached an outcome that really celebrates and is unafraid of texture and colour. The warm solid walnut and jewel toned-depth of the thick, beautiful knitted upholstery work exceptionally well together.
