We approached the live edge slab of wood much in the same way we would the site conditions for a building. We wanted to respect it and preserve its integrity, but we wanted our intervention to stand out as a part of it, to augment the existing in a clean and tasteful way. As a counterpoint to the live edge and the natural character of the wood, we wanted to use a sleek black steel component that would integrate almost invisibly. We used as few fasteners as possible, allowing gravity to hang the cabinets and for the wood and steel legs to lock into place. Flush mounted leather pulls allow the desk to soften at exactly the right moment- as your hand touches it.
