Our Bower renovation consists of three distinct and super special custom fixtures. The first - a wide bank of light (but sturdy) shelves made from oak and black steel rods. The cabinets contain slide out a printer tray, and file rack. The vertical steel rods match the vertical lighting feature our post a few posts back, and are the same steel rods used to support our stair case (pictures coming soon).
The second - a staircase. Suspended from steel rods each concrete tread was cast in our shop and brought to site. As you can imagine, each tread required a few people to lift into place!
Despite being concrete and heavy the treads still achieve a lightness and sophistication that matches the rest of the design.
Last but not least, a show-stopping custom chandelier floating above the stairwell. Made from a combination of white plaster and acrylic, each of the 20 individual pendants was delicately turned on the shop lathe and then placed in the arrangement. The frosted texture of the acrylic and the soft plaster create a warm toned reflection free surface that settles into the background when not illuminated.
